A New Year
A new year is under way and time is already flying by. As I write this article, I am preparing for Revolution 2016, an annual South Carolina United Methodist Conference-sponsored youth event, to be held January 29-31 at the Township Auditorium. I have been blessed to be part of this team since the event began in 2010 and it is hard for me to believe that this year will mark our seventh Revolution. The past seven years have been fun, crazy, stressful, and wonderful all at the same time. I am especially looking forward to Revolution 2016 because Faith’s Confirmation class will be participating. Be on the lookout for stories from our students in the next few weeks!
Whether I am planning a Conference youth event or sharing in ministry at Faith, I am continually reminded of how powerful our common ministry can be. We may be a group of individuals, but together, we are the Body of Christ. I came across a quote recently that struck a chord with me. In the words of an old African saying, “Alone we go fast, but together we go far.”
I look forward to ways that we can work together, serve together, pray together and live the Gospel together in 2016. A New Year is an exciting time because we don’t fully know what is to come. Who will God send into our doors in 2016? Where will God lead us to serve? How will God call us to grow and change and adjust what we have been doing to meet the needs of newcomers? What new opportunities await? We do not know the answers to these questions, but we can have confidence and peace because God does. May God guide everything we do – and may we seek God’s will as we strive to be the church that God is calling us to be.
